FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

$3,000 Crab Bounty Hunt

Begins 10 am August 1st and runs until 10 am September 3rd, 2001. (For this year's information, go HERE.)

January 14, 2001

Good Clean Fun for the whole family – and it’s free!!!!

$3,000 in tagged treasure is waiting to be pulled in from Winchester Bay. The annual Crab Bounty Hunt is underway, August 1 through September 3, 2001. Chris Harmon of Cottage Grove was the lucky Bounty Hunter in 1999 - he took home the $3,000 prize. Scott James of Reedsport walked away from the 2000 Crab Bounty Hunt $3,000 richer. Will YOU be the $3,000 winner in 2001?

Tagged dungenes crabs worth cash and prizes will be released in and around Winchester Bay, including one crab bearing a tag worth the grand prize of $3,000. There is no fee to participate in the Bounty Hunt and no special licenses are needed to catch crab.

All tagged crab should be taken to Sportsmen’s Cannery in Winchester Bay to be registered for the final prize drawing to be held directly after the Bounty season ends, at 10 AM, September 3, 2001. At that time a sealed envelope containing the $3,000 bounty tag number will be opened. If a tagged crab matching that number has been registered, the lucky hunter takes home the $3,000 bounty. If no match is made, a supplemental drawing will take place to award prizes of $300 and $200. Winners need not be present to win, but all tagged crab must be registered to win. Each tagged crab earns its capturer a free Bounty Hunt cap, and, of course, a delicious crab lunch or dinner.

Crab rings are available for sale or rent at many businesses throughout Reedsport and Winchester Bay. Complete Rules are posted wherever crabbing and fishing supplies are sold.

The 16th Annual Crab Bounty Hunt is sponsored by the Winchester Bay Merchants Association and co-sponsored by Salmon Harbor Marina, Pacific State Bank, and Umpqua River Navigation. From a humble beginning of a $100 bounty to its current $3,000 treasure, the Bounty Hunt has attracted visitors from all over the country, year after year.
