FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Get ready for Sand Fest 2001!

Coming to Winchester Bay, OR August 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th.

April 25, 2001 -- That's right we're well on our way to the biggest and most exciting Sand Festival yet. For the third year Sand Fest brings back official ASDA Drag Races, the Albany Super Cross, Moto-Cross, and of course we couldn't come back without our ever popular Poker Run giving all who play a wonderful scenic tour and a chance to win great prizes. Racers can contact the ASDA for pre-registration at adminastretion@sanddrags.com or contact relmxer@exchangenet.net for Moto-Cross information.

Sand Fest has been given high praise, 1999 - "With lakes, lush forests and the ocean, the Oregon Dunes are like no other. What a great place for a festival" 4-WHEEL ATV ACTION magazine. 2000 - "America's Sand Box, These dunes are the tallest coastal dunes in the country. Reaching several hundred feet high. They are also steep, and the most scenic" DIRT WHEELS magazine.

Sand Fest and the Winchester Bay Area takes pride in presenting Theresa Demarest & Good Company to perform "Kieko's Dream" live in concert on Friday. Demarest was so inspired by an eye-to-eye contact with the Whale (as so many Oregon Coast Aquarium visitors were during Kieko's recovery from captivity) that she wrote and published her latest CD "Keiko's Dream" recorded live at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts. Brief Kieko update: In 1998 Kieko was moved to her new home in Iceland's Westmann Islands where he is being re-introduced to the wild. His keepers hope to have him out in the open ocean by May 2001. We hope this will be a very special concert in total celebration of Kieko's complete recovery from years of captivity and release to the wild.

The Venders Fair & RV Show will be on Beach Blvd. and free to the public, we anticipate the return of most previous Sand Fest Venders and the introduction of many more. There are plans to have a Beer Garden/Dance with live music on Thursday and Saturday night. This years Venders Fair is filled with fun such as Rock Climbing and Jet Ski test rides. We are arranging shuttles (or hay rides) from the Dunes to the Venders Fair and back, although the paved street will be special permitted to ride on during the Fest. There will also be additional food venders at the Race Pit area.

To get there: Take I-5 from North or South - West on Hwy 38 to Reedsport - South on Hwy 101 - 3 miles to Winchester Bay.

There is sand camping available throughout the State Parks and will be available at the Drag area by permit only. Contact the Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce for more information about Motel and RV Park locations (541) 271-3495.

So mark your calendars for AUGUST 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th. SAND FEST 2001
