Photo by Liz Adamo of the Umpqua Post.

Santa Claus made his first local appearance of the season Sunday when he was delivered to an admiring crowd in Salmon Harbor. Charter boat captain, Scott Howard cruised Santa up to the dock on the "Strike Zone."

Umpqua Post - November 28, 2001

November 28 to 30, 2003

11 am to 5 pm

Refreshments, door prizes, Santa, special sale prices and a goodie sack for everyone who makes the round of each store. A good place to start your Christmas Shopping!!!

The following Businesses will be listed on the Victorian Christmas "Dance Card*"

You may pick up a Card at any of these businesses or at the Chamber office in Reedsport.

Santa will be at Pizza Rays in Winchester Bay from 2 to 3 pm Saturday afternoon.

He will be delivered by the Winchester Bay Fire District.

Santa will hand out candy canes to the children. Parents can take photos of their children with Santa. If they don't have a camera, one of Santa's elves will be there taking photos.

* For those who want to know what a "Dance Card" is:

Originally this event was called Victorian Christmas. Times change and so did the name of the event - to Christmas on the Bay and now to Holiday by the Sea. But, the Dance Card has been help over from the original Victorian Christmas.

In Victorian days, young people would be invited to balls. Each person was given a "Dance Card" listing the dances that were planned for the evening. The young men would ask their favorite young ladies for a dance and would sign her card next to the name of each dance (with a note on his own card so he knew who he was to dance with that evening too!).

Our Dance Cards list each participating business (listed above). You take the card around to each business and ask to have it stamped. When you have collected a complete collection of stamps, you take your card to the Lighthouse Gallery to trade for a sack full of goodies!
